The Carthage College women's water polo team (11-6), ranked eighth in the April 7 Collegiate Water Polo Association's NCAA Division III coaches poll, went 5-0 to win the Friday-Saturday, March 26-27 Wheaton College (Ill.) Tournament at the Chrouser Fitness Center Pool in Wheaton, Ill.
Carthage won a pair of games on Friday, March 26, opening the day with a 9-2 win over the host-Thunder (6-9) and then defeating Connecticut College (1-2) by a 16-6 margin. Kimmy Genian (Jr., Gurnee, Ill./Highland Park) and Michelle Mulhall (Sr., Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) scored two goals apiece in Carthage's win over Wheaton (Ill.). Genian scored four times in the win over Connecticut College, while Jessica Shopiro (Sr., Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) had three goals.
On Saturday, March 27, the Lady Reds defeated Penn State-Behrend (1-13), 10-2; won over Utica College (0-13), 15-5; and defeated Macalester College (5-13) by a 19-6 margin. In the Penn State Behrend match, Christine Menzenberger (Jr., Mokena, Ill./Frankfort—Lincoln Way East) had three goals. Kimmy Genian collected four goals in the Utica contest, while Michelle Mulhall and Jessica Shopiro had three goals each in the win over Macalester. The Lady Reds return to action on Saturday, April 10 by playing host to the Carthage Tournament. The Lady Reds will take on Wheaton College (Ill., 9-9) at 11 a.m. and the Loyola University (Ill.) club team at 2 p.m.
