The Carthage College men's tennis team (3-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) swept a pair of matches on Saturday, Feb. 13 at the Pleasant Valley Tennis Club in Jackson, Wis. Carthage defeated St. Norbert College (1-2), 7-2, before blanking Concordia University (Wis., 0-4) by a 9-0 margin. 

Carthage's Sammy Ramoni (Sr., Honiara, Guadalcanal/New Mexico Military Institute, 8-1), listed seventh in the fall 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Region rankings, won both of his number-one singles matches, defeating St. Norbert's Jordan Bauer, 3-6, 6-3, 10-3, and winning over Concordia's Brian Tresedder, 6-1, 6-2. Jeffery Lotz Jr. (Fr., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 5-1) won both of his number-two singles matches, defeating St. Norbert's Derek Harrington, 6-3, 2-6, 10-8, and winning over Concordia's Steven Anschutz, 6-1, 6-1. Matt Whiteside (Fr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 2-2) split at number-three singles. J.T. Delk (Sr., Wheaton, Ill./North, 2-2) lost to St. Norbert at number-four singles. Chris Vargo (Fr., Elmhurst, Ill./York, 3-1) won both of his number-five singles contests, and Alex McLean (Fr., Belleville, Ill./West, 2-1) was a winner at number-six singles over St. Norbert.

The Red Men's number-one doubles team of Ramoni and Jack Schiro (Sr., Shorewood, Wis., 2-0) won both of their matches, as did Carthage's number-two doubles team of Lotz and Delk (2-0) and the number-three tandem of Vargo and Andy Schwenke (Jr., Mukwonago, Wis., 3-1). Carthage opens its CCIW-schedule on Sunday, Feb. 21 by playing host to Illinois Wesleyan University in a 5 p.m. match at the Racine Indoor Tennis Club in Racine, Wis.
