Carthage Men's Swimming Splits a Jan.3 Triangular at Arizona State

The Carthage College men's swimming team (4-2 dual-meet record) split a triangular meet on Sunday, Jan. 3 at Arizona State University's Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe, Ariz. Carthage defeated Saint Louis University, 137-78, but lost to the host-Sun Devils by a 156-62 margin. 

Carthage's Kyle Drake (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) won the 200 individual medley (1:58.91) while finishing second in the 100 backstroke (54.53). Nathan Ripley (Sr., Middleton, Wis.) finished second in the 150 free style (1:18.99). Eric Ross (So., West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) took third place in the 150 freestyle (1:19.77), as did Ryan Ortmann (So., Woodstock, Ill.) in the 50 freestyle (22.35), Doug Schranck (So., Alton, Ill./Marquette Catholic) in the 100 butterfly (53.08), Jon Bond (Fr., Dixon, Ill.) in the 100 backstroke (56.20), Alex Van Huis (Sr., Winneconne, Wis.) in the 300 freestyle (1:55.17) and Mike Moravek (So., Rolling Meadows, Ill./Palatine-Fremd) in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.46). 

The Red Men travel to Chicago on Saturday, Jan. 9 for a triangular meet at the University of Chicago's Ratner Athletic Center with the host-Maroons and Kalamazoo College beginning at 1 p.m.
