The Carthage College men's swimming team (6-5 dual-meet record) defeated Wheaton College (Ill.) , 135-124, on Saturday, Jan. 23 in a dual meet at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis.
Carthage's Blake Bendix (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) won both the 50 freestyle (21.89) and the 100 freestyle (48.61), while Kyle Drake (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) finished first in both the 200 individual medley (1:59.78) and the 500 freestyle (4:51.92). Nathan Ripley (Sr., Middleton, Wis.) finished first in the 200 freestyle (1:48.24) and second in the 100 freestyle (48.65), while Bob Pellican (Jr., Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) won the 200 backstroke (1:58.50), while taking second place in the 100 backstroke 54.59). Jon Bond (Fr., Dixon, Ill.) finished first in the 100 backstroke, as did Doug Schranck (So., Alton, Ill./Marquette Catholic) in the 200 butterfly (1:59.31).
Adam Van Huis (So., Winneconne, Wis.) finished second in the 1,000 freestyle (10:14.99), as did Alex Van Huis (Sr., Winneconne, Wis.) in the 200 butterfly (2:02.30), Ryan Ortmann (So., Woodstock, Ill.) in the 50 freestyle (21.98) and Eric Ross (So., West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) in the 500 freestyle (4:56.17). The Red Men play host to the Wisconsin Private College Swimming Championship on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center, beginning at Noon.
