Steve Djurickovic Named CCIW "Player of the Year" and Co/SIDA ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America®

Carthage's Steve Djurickovic (Jr., Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Kenosha-Bradford) was named the 2010 CCIW/Fred Young “Most Outstanding Player” and first-team All-CCIW. Djurickovic finished the regular season leading the CCIW in scoring (24.2 points per game thru Feb. 25), assists (7.28 per game), free-throw percentage (.878) and minutes played (37.00 per game), while ranked fifth in three-point field-goal percentage (.422), 10th in field-goal percentage (.518) and 19th in rebounding (4.5 per game). 

Djurickovic is Carthage's fourth conference “player of the year.” Johnie Butler won the award in 1971, Jason Wiertel in 2000 (co-winner) and Antoine McDaniel in 2002. Djurickovic has been named first-team All-CCIW three years in a row. 

Tyler Pierce (Fr., Westmont, Ill.) and Mitch Thompson (Fr., Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) were named third-team all-conference. Pierce finished the regular season ranked 14th in scoring (12.2 points per game), sixth in field-goal percentage (.556) and 18th in rebounding (4.6 per game). Thompson averaged 6.0 points per game, 4.8 rebounds and led the league in blocked shots (1.94 per game). Bosko Djurickovic was named CCIW “Men's Basketball Coach of the Year.”  Click here for the complete all-conference team.

Djurickovic was also named 2010 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN the Magazine College Division third-team Academic All-America® on Feb. 22. Earlier, Djurickovic was named CoSIDA)/ESPN the Magazine District 5 first-team all-academic. An exercise and sports science major with a 3.49 cumulative grade-point average through the fall 2009 semester, Djurickovic was named second-team academic all-district in 2009.  Click here for the complete team.
