The win over the Vikings sets up a battle for first place on Saturday, Jan. 30 when Red Men play host to Illinois Wesleyan University in a 7:30 p.m. game at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.

Carthage’s Steve Djurickovic (Jr., Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Kenosha-Bradford) and Tim McCrary (So., Wilmette, Ill./Winnetka-New Trier) were named CCIW “Co-Men’s Basketball Players of the Week” on Jan. 25. Djurickovic has earned “player of the week” honors twice this season.

The Carthage College men’s basketball team (12-4, 4-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 29th in the Jan. 19 “D3hoops.com” poll, defeated CCIW-opponent North Central College (8-8, 1-4 CCIW), 85-71, on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at Gregory Arena/Merner Fieldhouse in Naperville, Ill. The win, combined with a Wheaton College (Ill.) win over Illinois Wesleyan University, 66-65, in Wheaton, Ill., left the Red Men in a three-way tie for first place in the league, along with Illinois Wesleyan and North Park University.

Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009.  Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
Red Men's 1,000th Basketball Win
With an 85-60 win over Concordia University (Wis.) on Nov. 28, Carthage won its 1,000th men's basketball game.  The program began in 1907.
Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches.  Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a  shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Little All-Americans

The Associated Press has named 16 Carthage football players "Little All-Americans" since 1938, including punter Tyler Funk, a 2009 honoree.

First NFL Playoff Game
John “Popeye” Wager, ‘31, was a lineman for the 1932 NFL Portsmouth (Ohio) Spartans, who played the Chicago Bears in the first-ever NFL post-season game.  The Spartans finished the regular season in a first-place tie with the Bears, whose owner, George Halas, had a playoff game scheduled and moved from Wrigley Field, then the Bears’ home turf, to an indoor contest at the Chicago Stadium.
Former Carthage basketball player Kent Dernbach (2002-03) is currently the Northern Illinois University Director of Men’s Basketball Operations. Dernbach held the same post at George Mason University from 2007 to 2009.
Bosko Djurickovic
Carthage men's basketball coach Bosko Djurickovic’s CCIW winning percentage entering the 2009-10 season (.663, 224-114) is the sixth-best in the 63-year history of the league, and his 224 wins placed him first among active conference coaches.
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02.  Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill.  Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
