CCIW to Conduct Online Chat with Head Basketball Coaches October 28

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) will conduct a live online chat with the head men’s and women’s basketball coaches on the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 28.

The women's coaches will start at 9 a.m. with Augustana, Carthage, Elmhurst and Illinois Wesleyan going first, followed by Millikin, North Central, North Park and Wheaton starting at 9:45. The men's chat will begin at 11 a.m. with Augustana, Carthage, Elmhurst and Illinois Wesleyan going first, followed by Millikin, North Central, North Park and Wheaton starting at 11:45. At the conclusion of each sport’s chat, the CCIW preseason poll will be announced for that sport.

Media, fans and other followers of CCIW men’s and women’s basketball can join the chat by visiting the CCIW website on October 28. During the chat, participants will be able to ask questions of all 16 CCIW basketball coaches regarding the upcoming season. Media members are asked to identify themselves and their affiliation during their participation on the chat.

Joining the chat will be head men’s basketball coaches Grey Giovanine from Augustana, Bosko Djurickovic from Carthage, Mark Scherer from Elmhurst, Ron Rose from Illinois Wesleyan, Marc Smith from Millikin, Todd Raridon from North Central, Paul Brenegan from North Park, and Mike Schauer from Wheaton. On the women’s side, the chat will feature head coaches Bobbi Endress from Augustana, Tim Bernero from Carthage, Tethnie Werner from Elmhurst, Mia Smith from Illinois Wesleyan, Lori Kerans from Millikin, Kendra Hunter from North Central, Amanda Reese from North Park, and Beth Baker from Wheaton.

The online chat will be conducted by CCIW Assistant Commissioner/Sports Information Director Mike Krizman and all questions will be screened before they are presented to the coaches. The coaches will try to answer as many questions from the audience as possible.

The CCIW conducted a similar chat in August with the eight head football coaches. Over 330 viewers logged on to watch the event.

Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches.  Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a  shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009.  Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02.  Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill.  Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
