The Carthage College women’s volleyball team (31-5), ranked eighth in the Nov. 3 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, opens plays in the 62-team NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. versus Simpson College (21-13) at the Central Region championship at Washington University (Mo.) Field House in St. Louis, Mo.

The Carthage College women’s volleyball team (31-5), ranked eighth in the Nov. 3 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll and second in the Nov. 4 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional poll, won the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Women's Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 7 with a 3-0 sweep over No. 28 North Central College (34-4) at Carthage’s Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis. The Lady Reds’ winning set scores over the Cardinals were 25-15, 25-14 and 25-12.

The Carthage College women’s volleyball team (30-5), ranked eighth in the Nov. 3 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll and second in the Nov. 4 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional poll, advanced to the championship match of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Women's Volleyball Tournament on Friday, Nov. 6 with a 3-0 sweep of Elmhurst College (17-17) at Carthage’s Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis. The Lady Reds’ winning set scores over the Bluejays were 25-13, 25-19 and 25-21.

The Carthage College women’s volleyball team (24-4, 6-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked ninth in the Oct. 20 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll and third in the Oct. 21 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional poll, went 2-1 at the Friday-Saturday, Oct. 23-24 Heidelberg College Quadrangular at the Seiberling Gymnasium in Tiffin, Ohio.

The Carthage College women’s volleyball team (23-3, 6-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked ninth in the Oct. 20 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll and third in the Oct. 21 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional poll, traveled to Tiffin, Ohio, for the Friday-Saturday, Oct. 23-24 Heidelberg College Quadrangular at the Seiberling Gymnasium. On Friday, Oct. 23, Carthage swept Webster University (14-10), 3-0, with winning set scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-15.

Little All-Americans

The Associated Press has named 16 Carthage football players "Little All-Americans" since 1938, including punter Tyler Funk, a 2009 honoree.

Red Men's 1,000th Basketball Win
With an 85-60 win over Concordia University (Wis.) on Nov. 28, Carthage won its 1,000th men's basketball game.  The program began in 1907.
Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
First NFL Playoff Game
John “Popeye” Wager, ‘31, was a lineman for the 1932 NFL Portsmouth (Ohio) Spartans, who played the Chicago Bears in the first-ever NFL post-season game.  The Spartans finished the regular season in a first-place tie with the Bears, whose owner, George Halas, had a playoff game scheduled and moved from Wrigley Field, then the Bears’ home turf, to an indoor contest at the Chicago Stadium.
Former Carthage basketball player Kent Dernbach (2002-03) is currently the Northern Illinois University Director of Men’s Basketball Operations. Dernbach held the same post at George Mason University from 2007 to 2009.
Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches.  Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a  shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Bosko Djurickovic
Carthage men's basketball coach Bosko Djurickovic’s CCIW winning percentage entering the 2009-10 season (.663, 224-114) is the sixth-best in the 63-year history of the league, and his 224 wins placed him first among active conference coaches.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009.  Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02.  Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill.  Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
