The most-storied women’s cross country and track field runner in Carthage history, Melissa Todd. from Racine, Wis., and Case High School, lettered four times each in cross country (1993-96) and track and field (1994-97). In cross country, she was named an NCAA Division III All-American in 1996 with a 12th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship. Todd is Carthage's only cross country All-American. She set a Carthage record in 1996 with a 17:42 time and won her first eight races before finishing fourth at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championship. Todd was named all-regional in 1994 (finished 21st), 1995 (individual champion) and 1996 (finished fourth). She was named All-CCIW in 1993 finished 10th), 1995 (individual champion) and 1996 (individual champion).
In track and field, Todd was first named NCAA Division III All-America with a second-place finish in the 1,500-meter run at the 1996 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She won the event the next year and earned her second-straight NCAA Division III All-America honor. Todd was also named United States Track Coaches Association All-America with an eighth-place finish in the 800-meter run at the 1996 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. She earned All-CCIW honors in nine events over four season, and won three events (800-meter run, 1,500-meter run, 3,000-meter run) in both 1996 and 1997.
