From Amboy, Ill., Jim Payne lettered four times in football (1960-63) and once in track and field (1962). In football, he was named NAIA All-American in both 1962 and 1963, an Associated Press honorable mention Little All-American quarterback in 1963, first-team All-CCIW in both 1962 and 1963 and Peoria Journal-Star all-state in both 1962 and 1963.
