From Stevens Point, Wis., Eugene “Shorty” Flees lettered four times in baseball (1994-97) and was named an American Baseball Coaches Association All-American centerfielder three times, second team in 1995, first team in 1996 and third team in 1997. Flees earned first-team All-CCIW honors in 1995, 1996 and 1997 and was named second-team all-conference in 1994. He won the 1997 CCIW “Player of the Year” award with a .380 batting average, 13 home runs and 62 RBI. Flees is ranked fifth on the Red Men’s careering batting list (.388), first in base hits (269), second in runs (179), first in RBI (209), tied for second in doubles (57), ranked second in home runs (42), third in slugging percentage (.661) and sixth in on-base percentage (.442).
