From Franklin Grove, Ill., Denny Kessel lettered four times in baseball (1968-71) and three times in basketball (1969-71). In baseball, he was named a first-team All-CCIW pitcher in 1971. Kessel pitched complete-game, five-hit shutout over North Park in the first game of the Red Men’s famed Quadrupleheader sweep over North Park and Illinois Wesleyan on May 18, 1970 in Chicago. Three weeks earlier, he hurled the Red Men’s only perfect game, winning a 1-0 decision over North Central College on April 25 in Naperville, Ill. Kessel went on to teach and coach at Mundelein High School in Mundelein, Ill.
