From Embarrass, Wis., Dean Muthig lettered four times in baseball (1996-99) and was named an American Baseball Coaches Association first-team All-American third baseman and first-team All-CCIW in 1999 with a .405 batting average, 68 runs scored, a team-high 17 doubles, 13 home runs, 67 RBI and a .698 slugging percentage. Muthig was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1999 Major League Baseball draft and played for two years in the Phillies’ farm system before an elbow injury ended his playing career in 2000. He was named first-team All-CCIW in 1997 and second-team all-conference in 1998. Muthig is ranked third on the Carthage career list for batting average (.399), fifth for base hits (.232), third in runs scored (175), first in doubles (62), and second in slugging percentage (.665). He tied a Carthage game record with six base hits versus Rockford College on April 17, 1997 and set a game record (subsequently tied by two others) with three home runs versus Wisconsin-Platteville on March 14, 1999.
