From Metropolis, Ill., Charles Hopson collected 14 varsity letters, four in football (1937-40), four in basketball (1938-41), four in track and field (1938-41) and two in tennis (1940-41). In football, he was named an Associates Press honorable mention Little All-American quarterback in 1940 and All-Little 19 Conference in both 1939 and 1940. Hopson set a Carthage game record, which still stands, with a 103-yard interception return for a touchdown at Elmhurst College on Oct. 19, 1940. He went to serve to a 29-yard career as a teacher, coach and administrator for Metropolis Public Schools in Metropolis, Ill.
