From Fond du Lac, Wis., Bill Heinkel lettered four times in football (1967-70) and four times in baseball (1968-71). In football, he was named first-team All-CCIW in both 1967 and 1968 and led the league in rushing in 1967. In baseball, Heinkel earned all-conference honors in 1971, He was also a speed skater, winning five national championships, competing internationally and earning a spot on 12 national training teams. He came up short on bids to make the 1968, 1972, 1976 and 1980 Winter Olympics teams
