From Selingsgrove, Pa., Al Stiefel lettered four times in cross country (1964-67) and four times in track and field (1965-68). In cross country, Stiefel finished second at the 1964, 1965 and 1966 CCIW Cross Country Championships and third in 1967. In 1965, Stiefel finished 59th at the NCAA College Division Cross Country Championship. In 1967, he finished 19th at the NCAA championship and was later named an NAIA All-American with an eighth-place finish at the NAIA Cross Country Championship. In track and field, he finished second in the two-mile run and third in the one-mile run at the 1965 CCIW Outdoor Track and Field Championship, first in the 880-yard run and second in the one-mile run at the 1966 championship, second in the one-mile run at the 1967 championship and first in the one-mile run and second in the three-mile run at the 1968 conference championship.
