Madie Kaelber Named CCIW Women's Basketball Player of the Week

NAPERVILLE, ILL.—Carthage College women's basketball sophomore guard Madie Kaelber was named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. Kaelber's first CCIW Player of the Week honor comes on the heels of her career-high, 33-point performance in the Lady Red's 96-90 2OT loss at University of Chicago on November 26. Twenty-seven of those points occurred in the second half, and two overtime periods.
 
The Pleasant Prairie, Wis. native registered 24.5 points per game on 17-of-38 shooting (.447) throughout Carthage's 1-1 mark in a week that also included a 67-49 victory over Coe College on November 21. Kaelber's 11 made field goals, 24 field goal attempts, nine free throws, nine free throw attempts and 38 minutes played in Sunday's loss to the Maroons were also career-highs.
 
She also led all players with 16 points, and a career-high four steals in the win over Coe College.
 
Kaelber owns 20.8 points per game, a .406 (28-69) field goal percentage and a .952 (20-21) free throw percentage four games into the 2017-18 season.
 
The Lady Reds will open their home schedule against UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday, November 29 at 7:00 p.m.
