NAPERVILLE, ILL.—The Carthage College women's basketball team is entrenched in the third spot on the 2017-18 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Preseason Women's Basketball Poll that was released Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Reds tallied 45 points on the poll. Illinois Wesleyan University sits atop the preseason poll with 61 points (five first place), followed by Wheaton College's (Ill.) 60 points (four first place).
 
The Lady Reds, who were picked to finish fourth on last season's preseason poll, closed 2016-17 with a 14-11, 8-8 CCIW record that put them in a tie for fifth place with North Central College (Ill.). The makeup of Carthage's 2017-18 roster includes 16 returners, four newcomers, five returning starters and no key losses.  
 
The Lady Reds will open 2017-18 at the Cornell College Classic on Friday, November 17 – Saturday, November 18 in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Carthage will face Bethel University on November 17 at 8:00 p.m., and the host Cornell College on November 18 at 2:00 p.m.
