KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College Lady Reds concluded a successful home weekend of Collegiate Water Polo Association action Sunday with a 14-9 win over Connecticut College at Carthage's Koenitzer Aquatic Center.
The win improved the Lady Reds to 5-1 on the weekend and Carthage currently sits at 10-1 overall in 2016 and 8-1 in the CWPA.
After falling behind early, the Lady Reds tied the match at 3-3 on a
Jane Eckles goal with five seconds remaining in the first period. The Lady Reds carried the momentum into the second and grabbed control of the match with five goals in the period, including a hat-trick by
Allie Boothe, to give Carthage an 8-5 lead at the half.
Carthage continued to increase their lead out of the break by winning the third quarter, 3-0, to take a 11-5 lead into the fourth before the Camels began to mount a comeback. Connecticut College came out firing in the fourth with a 4-0 run to cut the Carthage lead to two at 11-9. It would be the closest that Connecticut College could manage to draw as
Allie Boothe,
Brittany Wallace and
Colleen Koepke each netted a goal to finish out the scoring at 14-9 in favor of the Lady Reds.
Allie Boothe led all scorers in the game with a team-high on the weekend, seven goals, while Eckles and Wallace added three each.
Anna Shirer led the Lady Reds with four assists, while Eckles had a Carthage-best two steals.
Carthage will take off the rest of the month and return to action in the second CWPA tournament of the season when they head to Penn State-Behrend in Erie, Pennsylvania to face-off against Utica College, Grove City College, Connecticut College, Washington and Jefferson and Penn State-Behrend April 1st-3rd.
