KENOSHA, Wis. – Carthage College has learned of the passing of football great and Carthage Athletic Hall of Fame member Jim Jodat following a battle with cancer. He was 61.
A 1976 graduate, Jim Jodat was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984 following his terrific career at Carthage where he set the record as all-time leading rusher in school and conference history with 4,079 yards. Both records are still held by Jim Jodat today.
"The passing of Jim Jodat is a great loss to the Carthage community," said Carthage's Director of Athletics, Bob Bonn. "Not many Division III football players become professional athletes or have successful careers in the NFL. Jim was one of the best Red Men football players in Carthage history and a first-rate person. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends."
Jodat was named Associated Press Little All-America and NAIA second-team All-America in 1975, as well as CCIW Art Keller Award winner for the "Most Outstanding Offensive Player." He was a four-time first-team All-CCIW selection.
Jodat went on to play for the National Football League Los Angeles Rams for four seasons and captained the Rams' special teams in their 33-19 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1980's Super Bowl XIV. Jodat also played on the Seattle Seahawks (1980-81) and finished his career with the San Diego Chargers (1982-83). He was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1990.
Jodat is survived by his former wife, Debra, and daughters Ashley and Hailey.
