The Carthage College men's volleyball team (24-8, 5-1 Continental Volleyball Conference), ranked fourth in the April 9 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, did not receive an at-large berth when the nine-team field for the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship was announced on Sunday, April 14.
The field for the championship is as follows: No. 14 Kean University (25-7) will play Endicott College (22-9) in a play-in match, with the winner advancing to take on defending-national-champion and No. 1 Springfield College (29-3) in the quarterfinals. In the three other quarterfinal matches, No. 7 Baruch College (33-5) plays No. 6 the Stevens Institute of Technology (25-8); No. 2 Nazareth College (34-1) takes on No. 3 the University of California-Santa Cruz (15-7); and No. 8 Juniata College (24-11) plays No. 15 Rivier College (26-11). This year's NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship will take place on Thursday-Saturday, April 26-28 at MIT's Rockwell Cage in Cambridge, Mass.
Carthage lost to Juniata (23-11), 3-1, on Saturday, April 13 in the semifinals of the Continental Volleyball Conference Tournament at Thiel College's Beeghly Gymnasium in Greenville, Pa. The Red Men lost to Springfield last year in the title match of the inaugural NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship at Springfield's Blake Arena in Springfield, Mass.
