Carthage College's
Abbi Howell (So. Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin “Women's Tennis Player of the Week” on April 10.
Howell went 4-0 for the Lady Reds last week. She went 2-0 at No. 4 singles, beating Wisconsin-River Falls' Makayla Newberry, 6-1, 6-2, and St. Norbert College's Lizzy Tews, 6-2, 6-2, on April 7. Howell teamed with Erin Hendrickson at No. 2 doubles in wins over Wisconsin-River Falls (8-0) and St. Norbert (8-1).
The Lady Reds sophomore has Carthage in her blood. Her mother, Karen Howell, is Carthage's executive secretary to President Gregory Woodward. Her grandfather, Don Moldenhauer, who passed away in 2012, lettered on the 1952 Carthage tennis team, later worked in the public relations office at Carthage in Carthage, Ill., and later served two terms as a Kenosha city alderman.
