The Carthage College men's tennis team (5-6, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) concluded a three-match spring trip to Orlando, Fla., on Wednesday, March 27 by splitting a pair of matches. Carthage defeated Hamline University (2-8), 7-2, before being shut out by Luther College (6-7), 9-0.
Carthage's
Jeff Lotz Jr. (Sr., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 18-9) lost both of his No. 1 singles matches. Hamline's David Croonquist defeated Lotz, 6-1, 1-6, 10-8, and Luther's Karki Ramesh won, 1-6, 6-4, 10-7.
Alex Boomgarden (Fr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 13-7) split, winning over Hamline's Nathan Tretsven, 6-2, 6-1, before losing to Luther's Nick Mozena, Mozena winning 1-6, 6-2, 10-2.
Ryan Jump (Fr., Mundelein, Ill., 13-5) split at No. 3 singles, as did
Brian Howes (Sr., Bartlett, Ill., 13-8) at No. 4 singles.
Juan Robles (So., Bogota, Columbia, 3-11) lost both matches at No. 5 singles, and
Tom Klassman (Sr., Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove, 7-10) split at No 6 singles.
Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Boomgarden (11-8) split against Hamline and Luther, as did the No. 2 doubles team of
Conor Moon (So., Sussex, Wis./Woodstock (Ill.)-Marian Central Catholic) and
Brandon Curtis (Jr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge, 5-7) and the No. 3 tandem of Howes and Jump (7-7). Carthage travels to Bloomington, Ill., on Saturday, April 6 for a double-dual match at Illinois Wesleyan University's Neis Tennis Courts.
The Red Men take on the host-Titans in a CCIW-contest at 9 a.m. and non-conference opponent Westminster College (Mo.) at 1 p.m.
