Connor Wexter (Jr., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) was named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III “Player of the Week," as well as Continental Volleyball Conference "Player of the Week" on March 12.
Wexter helped set his team to a perfect 3-0 record last weekend at the Continental Volleyball Conference Weekend Tournament in Milwaukee with a victory over No. 5 the University of California-Santa Cruz and two sweeps of Fontbonne University. In what was one of the most anticipated matches of the week against the Banana Slugs, the two teams certainly did not disappoint. In the five-set thriller, Wexter recorded 71 assists and 14 digs, finishing just three sets shy of the record set by Scott Marita versus Rivier College on Jan. 18, 2009.
Over the course of the next two matches, the Illinois native tallied 62 assists, and 20 digs while leading his team to hitting percentages of .311 and .371, respectively. For the week, he averaged 13.3 assists and 3.4 digs per set.
