The Carthage College men's tennis team (0-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) sent four players to the Friday-Sunday, Sept. 28-29 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Midwest Regional Championship at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. 

Jeff Lotz Jr. (Sr., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 5-2) advanced all the way to quarterfinals.  Lotz, with a first-round bye, defeated Lawrence University' Jeremy Andereck, 6-1, 6-0, in the second round; defeated Andrew Hwang from Carleton College, 6-2, 6-3, in the third round; and won over Wisconsin-Whitewater's Andy McGlashen, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6, in the fourth round.  Lotz fell to Mya Smith-Dennis from Gustavus Adolphus College in the quarterfinals, Smith-Dennis winning, 6-3, 6-2.. 
 
Alex Boomgarden (Fr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 3-1) defeated Frankie Giuffre from Carroll University (Wis.), 6-0, 6-2, in the first round; defeated Luther College's James Ayer, 6-3, 6-2, in the second round; and lost to Motasem Al Houni from Gustavus Adolphus College, 6-1, 4-6, 10-4, in the third round.  Ryan Jump (Fr., Mundelein, Ill., 3-1) lost to Coe College's Yasushi Inoue, 6-1, 6-0, in first-round play.  The doubles team of Lotz and Boomgarden (2-3) defeated James Mack/Dylan Kelly from the College of St. Scholastica, 8-5, in a first-round match, before losing to Mike Woolf/Jeff Damisch from Coe College, 8-6, in the second round.
 
In the accompanying Gustavus Adolphus Midwest Open singles bracket, Carthage's Brian Howes (Sr., Bartlett, Ill., 5-2) defeated D.J. Grant from Wartburg College, 2-6, 6-0, 10-5, in the first round; won over Wisconsin-Whitewater's Kevin Friend, 0-6, 6-1, 10-2, in the second round; defeated Kyle Hoffman from Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 6-3, 6-1, in the third round; before losing to Andrew Rangitsch from St. Mary's University (Minn.) in the fourth round, Rangitsch winning, 6-0, 7-6. In Midwest Open doubles, the Red Men's team of Howes and Ryan Jump (0-1) fell to Matt Baker and Colin Rieke from Gustavus Adolphus, 8-0, in a first-round contest.
