Carthage Women's Tennis Competes in the Sept. 21-22 ITA Midwest Championship

The Carthage College women's tennis team traveled to St. Peter, Minn., on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 21-22 to play in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Midwest Regional Championship at Gustavus Adolphus College—no team scores were kept.
 
Bari Reynolds (Jr., Sterling, Ill., 7-5) reached the third round of singles competition.  She defeated Wisconsin-Whitewater's Erika Williams, 7-6(8), 6-7)3), 6-4, in a first-round match; defeated Rachael Zwiener from the College of St. Scholastica, 6-2, 6-1, in a second-round contest; and lost to Carleton College's Bridget Doyle in the third round, Doyle winning, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.  Haleigh McPeek (So., Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest, 8-3) defeated Sidney Dirks from Gustavus Adolphus, 6-0, 7-5, in a first-round match before losing to Carleton's Mikayla Becich in the second round, Becich winning, 7-5, 6-1.
 
In doubles, Reynolds and McPeek (6-2) advanced to the quarterfinals.  The Lady Reds duo, with first-round bye, defeated Erika Williams/Hillary Franzen from Wisconsin-Whitewater, 8-2, in the second round; defeated Wisconsin-La Crosse's Karie Williams/Rachael Wabers, 8-0, in the third round, and lost to Carleton's Bridget Doyle and Mikayla Becich, 8-0, in the quarterfinals.
 
Abbi Howell (So., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest, 6-4) played in the accompanying Gustavus Adolphus Fall Invitational tournament and lost to Carleton's Joyce Yu in singles, Yu winning, 6-2, 6-2.  Howell then defeated Emily Grossen from Wisconsin-Stout, 9-7, in the consolation quarterfinals; won over Hamline University's Rachael Barnes, 9-7, in the consolation semifinals; and defeated Hamline's Angie Seubert, 8-4, in the consolation finals.
 
Erin Hendrickson (So., Darien, Ill./Hinsdale-South, 4-5), also playing in the fall invitational, lost to Delaney Sweet from Gustavus Adolphus, Sweet winning, 1-6, 6-4, 10-5.  Hendrickson then defeated Cornell College's Phoebe Miller, 8-2, in the consolation quarterfinals before losing Grinnell College's Julia Rumley, 8-2, in the consolation semifinals.
 
In fall invitational doubles, Howell/Hendrickson (7-5) reached the third round.  The Carthage duo defeated Katheryn Hendee/Kendall Bonnin from Wisconsin Lutheran College, 8-4; won over Wisconsin-Whitewater's Kelsey Fitzgerald/Ashley Miler, 8-5; and lost to Mary Frassetto/Renée Nelson from Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the Blugolds winning, 8-3.
