The Carthage College women's tennis team (16-6) had little trouble in advancing to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Automatic Qualifier Championship match. The Lady Reds defeated Illinois Wesleyan, 9-0, at the Quad City Tennis Club in Moline, Ill., on Friday, May 4. The team will take on Wheaton Saturday, May 5, to determine which school will get the league's automatic bid. The Lady Reds edged Illinois Wesleyan, 5-4, during fall play.
Carthage's
Hollis McPeek (Sr., Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest, 16-10) defeated Illinois Wesleyan's Helen Alex at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Bari Reynolds (So. Sterling, Ill., 23-6) topped Lauren Drawbridge at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-2.
Haleigh McPeek (Fr., Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest, 7-4) upended Alissa Goetz at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-1.
Kristina Naidicz (So., Kenosha, Wis./Tremper, 15-12) won both her sets by shutout, 6-0, 6-0, over Ashlyn Hiegel at No. 4 singles.
Erin Henrickson (Fr., Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South, 10-16) beat Jose Linman, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles and
Amanda Bizub (Sr., Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead, 14-7) handled Kylene Wolfe, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 6 singles.
In doubles action, Carthage's No. 1 team of McPeek and McPeek (11-1) blanked Alex and Huegel, 8-0. At No. 2 doubles, the duo of Reynolds and Naidicz (7-5) defeated Drawbridge and Goetz, 8-4. At No. 3 doubles, Hendrickson and Bizub (7-4) were victorious over Linman and Wolfe, 8-2.
