Red Men Take on Principia College on Saturday

The Carthage College men's tennis team (13-5, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) won a pair of matches on Friday, April 6 at Lindenwood University-Belleville in Belleville, Ill.  Carthage defeated Westminster College (Mo., 8-9), 6-3, before blanking Lindenwood-Belleville (4-6) by a 9-0 margin.
 
Carthage's Jeff Lotz Jr. (Jr., Racine, Wis., 20-7), ranked 14th in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, won both of his No. 1 singles matches, defeating Westminster's Tony Stephenson, 6-1, 6-3, and winning over Lindenwood-Belleville's Cyrus Moselmi, 6-3, 6-2.  Daneric Hazelman (Sr., Lautoka, Fiji Islands, 20-6) won a No. 2 singles match over Westminster's Anthony Becker, 6-0, 6-0, and a No. 3 singles contest over Lindenwood-Belleville's Steve Nguyen, 6-0, 6-0.  Matt Whiteside (Sr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathway Prep, 16-5) won a No. 3 singles match over Westminster and a No. 2 singles contest versus Lindenwood-Belleville. 

Alex McLean (Sr., Belleville, Ill./West, 9-15) won both of his No. 4 singles matches.  Nick Boomgarden (Sr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 13-14) lost a No. 5 singles match to Westminster, and Andrew Knutson (So., Minneapolis, Minn./Minnehaha Academy, 5-3) won over Lindenwood-Belleville at No. 5 singles.  Brian Howes (Jr., Bartlett, Ill., 11-12) lost his No. 6 singles match to Westminster, but Brandon Curtis (So., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge, 3-2) won over Lindenwood-Belleville.
 
The Red Men's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Hazelman (24-2), ranked second in the region, won both of their matches, as did Carthage's No. 2 doubles team of Whiteside and Boomgarden (14-7).  The Red Men's No. 3 team of McLean and Conor Moon (Fr., Sussex, Wis./Woodstock, Ill.-Marian Central Catholic, 8-13) lost to Westminster but won over Lindenwood-Belleville.  Carthage returns home on Saturday, April 7 via Elsah, Ill., to play Principia College (9-2) in a 10 a.m. contest at the Hexberg Tennis Center.
