The Carthage College men's golf team (86-18) finished third at the Friday-Saturday, April 6-7 Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.  The Red Men entered the second day in a 10th-place tie, 10 strokes back of the leaders, but Carthage shot a blistering second-day round of 288 to finish one stroke out. 

The University of St. Francis (Ill.) at 305-297-602 tied for first with Nebraska Wesleyan University at 305-297-602, with St. Francis (Ill.) winning a tie-breaker in the 24-team event.  Carthage was third at 315-288-603, followed by Illinois Wesleyan fourth at 307-297-604, Wheaton College (Ill.) fifth at 306-303-609, Edgewood College sixth at 307-305-612, Millikin University seventh at 315-298-613, the Illinois Wesleyan "B" team eighth at 305-309-614, Webster University ninth at 312-310-622, Wisconsin-Stout at 317-310-627 and DePauw University at 308-319-627 tied for 10th place, Monmouth College 12th at 314-315-629, the College of Mount St. Joseph 13th at 327-305-632, the Milwaukee School of Engineering 14th at 327-317-644, Benedictine University (Ill.) 15th at 327-323-650, Augustana College (Ill.) 16th at 329-323-652, Robert Morris University (Ill.) 17th at 339-314-653, North Central College 18th at 334-327-661, Elmhurst College 19th at 337-325-662, Grinnell College 20th at 339-324-663, Blackburn College 21st at 330-338-668, Knox College 22nd at 337-333-670, Fontbonne University 23rd at 348-342-690 and Eureka College 24th with a 422-400-822 mark.
 
Millikin's Wes Hillen took medalist honors with a one-under-par 71-72-143.  Carthage's Josh Kopka (So., Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) tied for ninth place at 79-71-150.  Donnie Langland (Jr., Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) tied for 11th place with an 80-71-151.  Ben Schroeder (Jr., Mundelein, Ill.) tied for 18th at 79-74-153, Brad Hyland (So., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) tied for 21st at 77-77-154, and Riley Bauman (So., Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) shot an 84-72-156.  The Red Men travel to Oak Brook, Ill., on Monday, April 9 to play in the Elmhurst College Invitational at the Willow Crest Golf Club at the Oak Brook Hills Marriott Resort, beginning at Noon.
