The Carthage College men's tennis team (11-5, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) won the Saturday-Sunday, March 31-April 1 Wabash College "Kerry Seward Invitational" in Crawfordsville, Ind.  The Red Men won the eight-team event with 64 points, five points ahead of second-place Ohio Northern University at 59.  Coe College was third at 58, followed by Wabash fourth at 38, the University of Dubuque fifth at 35, Seward County Community College sixth at 26, the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology seventh at 23 and Hanover College eighth with 21 points.
 
Carthage's Jeff Lotz Jr. (Jr., Racine, Wis., 18-7), ranked 14th in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, reached the championship round before losing to Coe's Noah Sprinkel, Sprinkel winning 6-2, 6-4.  Daneric Hazelman (Sr., Lautoka, Fiji Islands, 18-6) won the No. 2 singles title over Ohio Northern's Mike Kathery, 7-6(6), 6-2.  Matt Whiteside (Sr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathway Prep, 14-5) won the No. 3 singles flight over Coe's Chris Newman, 6-4, 6-2. 

Alex McLean (Sr., Belleville, Ill./West, 7-15) lost in the third-place match of No. 4 singles, falling to Ian Leonard from Wabash, Leonard, 1-6, 6-3,15-13.  Nick Boomgarden (Sr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 13-13) lost in the No. 5 singles finals to Nate Koelper from Wabash, Koelper winning, 7-5, 7-5.  Brian Howes (Jr., Bartlett, Ill., 11-11) won the third-place at No. 6 singles over Ray Montgomery from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, 6-4, 6-2.  Carthage won all three doubles titles. 

The Red Men's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Hazelman, ranked second in the region (22-2) won their flight, 9-7, over Ohio Northern's Joey Frank and Michael Kathary.  Carthage's No. 2 doubles team of Whiteside and Boomgarden (12-7) won their title with an 8-3 decision over Ohio Northern's Nick Kowalczyk and Josh Saunders, and the Red Men's No. 3 team of McLean and Conor Moon (Fr., Sussex, Wis./Woodstock, Ill.-Marian Central Catholic, 7-12) defeated Ian Leonard and Evan Bayliss from Wabash by a 9-7 margin.
 
Carthage travels to Belleville, Ill., on Friday, April 6 for a pair of matches at the Lindenwood University-Belleville outdoor courts.  The Red Men play Westminster College (Mo.) at 10 a.m. and the host-Lynx at 1 p.m.  Carthage returns home on Saturday, April 7 via Elsah, Ill., to play Principia College in a 10 a.m. contest at the Hexberg Tennis Center.
