The Carthage College women's track and field team (6-1) opened its outdoor schedule on Saturday, March 31 with a second-place finish at the North Central College “First Chance Invitational” at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium in Naperville, Ill. 

The host-Cardinals won the 10-team event with 200 points, 22 points ahead of the second-place Lady Reds at 178.  Wheaton College (Ill.) was third at 116, followed by Wisconsin-Stevens Point fourth at 104.50, Wisconsin-Parkside fifth at 49, the College of DuPage sixth at 31.50, Harper College seventh at 27, Wisconsin-Stout eighth at 24, Benedictine University (Ill.) ninth at 17 and Aurora University 10th with three points.
 
Carthage's Kristin LeClair (So., Manitowoc, Wis./Lutheran) won the long jump (17-2 ¾).  Sarah Thompson (Sr., Byron, Ill.) was second in the both the long jump (16-8 ½) and the high jump (5-0 ¼) and third in the 100-meter high hurdles (15.97).  Kendra Koeppen (Jr., Mason City, Ill./Illini Central) took second place in both the hammer throw (134-7) and the discus (116-11), and Cindy Cavanagh (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Aurora-Waubonsie Valley) was second in both the javelin (10-5-7) and the shot put (39-93/4). 

Katie Kummerer (So., Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale-Central) was second in the 1,500-meter run (4:52.93), as was Patti Laufenberg (So., Waunakee, Wis.) in the 400-meter dash (59.43).  Becca McMullin (Fr., Round Lake, Ill./Fox Lake-Grant Community) took third place in both the discus (113-1) and the shot put (35-9 ¼).  Mary Doupis (Fr., Lindenhurst, Ill./Lake Villa-Lakes Community) was third in the hammer throw (126-10), as was Margaux Canup (Fr., Milford , Mich.) in the long jump (16-5 ¾).  The Lady Red also picked up a win from their 4x100-meter relay team with a time of 49.90. 

Carthage travels to Chicago on Friday, April 6 for the Chicagoland Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the University of Chicago's Amos Alonzo Stagg Field, beginning at 10 a.m.
