The Carthage College women's track and field team (21-9-2 indoor record) tied for fifth place at the Friday-Saturday, Feb. 3-4 Illinois Wesleyan University “Bob Keck Invitational” at the Shirk Center in Bloomington, Ill.
Illinois State University won the 14-team event with 114 points, followed by the host-Titans second at 82, Lewis University third at 79, Washington University (Mo.) fourth at 40, Carthage, Millikin University and the Missouri University of Science and Technology all tied for fifth place with 35 points each, the University of St. Francis (Ill.) eighth at 24, Coe College and Elmhurst College tied for ninth place at 16 each, the University of Dubuque 11th at 14, the Illinois Track Club 12th at 10, the College of DuPage 13th with nine points and Judson University (Ill.) 14th with six points.
Carthage's
Patti Laufenberg (So., Waunakee, Wis.) finished second in the 400-meter dash (59.14), as did
Katie Kummerer (So., Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale-Central) in the one-mile run (5:12.52) and
Karin Wirth (Jr., Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Prairie) in the 3,000-meter run (10:40.18).
Marissa Weiler (So., Morton Grove, Ill./Skokie-Niles North) was fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:01.15).
Carthage travels to Naperville, Ill., on Friday, Feb. 10 for the Chicagoland Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Al B. Carious Track, beginning at 5 p.m.
