The Carthage College women's water polo team (0-0, 0-0 Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III) opened its 2012 season by going 1-2 at the Friday-Saturday, Feb. 10-11 “Dave Madej Tournament” at Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Ill.
Carthage defeated the Loyola University (Ill.) club team, 12-4; lost to the Windy City Club team, 12-4; and fell to the Lindenwood University club team by a 9-7 margin.
Kelly Baumgartner (Fr., Orland Hills, Ill./Tinley Park-Andrew) and
Mari Paraskevopoulos (Sr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) scored three goals each against Loyola (Ill.), while goalkeeper
Ashley McGhee (Fr., Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) collected 12 saves.
Amanda Kuchan (So., Orland Park, Ill./Tinley Park-Andrew) scored three goals in the Windy City contest. Paraskevopoulos had five goals and
Hannah Duke (So., Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates-Conant) three assists versus Lindenwood, with McGhee picking up another 12 saves.
The Lady Reds travel to Madison, Wis., on Saturday-Sunday, March 3-4 for the Wisconsin-Madison Club Tournament.
