The Carthage College women's swimming team finished second at the Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 16-18 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Swimming Championship at Carthage's Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis.
Wheaton College (Ill.) won the seven-team championship to claim its 20th title and 15th in a row with 899.50 points, followed by Carthage second at 752.50, Illinois Wesleyan University third at 750, North Central College fourth at 336 ,Augustana College (Ill.) fifth at 298, Millikin University sixth at 205 and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology seventh with 155 points.
Ashley Gladis (Fr., Batavia, Ill./Batavia) was Carthage's only individual winner, taking first place in the 200 individual medley (2:08.19).
Gladis also finished second in the 400 individual medley (4:37.30). The Lady Reds also picked up a win from their 200 medley relay team of
Jensena Paul (Sr., Portage, Wis.),
Allison Soper (Fr., Downers Grove, Ill./North),
Kelly Loftus (So., Winfield, Ill./West Chicago) and
Megan Shover (Fr., Prospect Heights, Ill./Arlington Heights-St. Viator) with a time of 1:46.63.
Allison Soper finished second in both the 100 breaststroke (1:06.57) and the 200 breaststroke (2:23.50) and set a Carthage record (1:06.38) in the former during the preliminaries.
Natalia Bialecka (So., Des Plaines, Ill./Park Ridge-Maine East) was second in the 50 freestyle (24.33) and fifth in the 100 freestyle (53.99), while
Jensena Paul was second in the 100 backstroke (58.62).
Lisa Perdue (Fr., Whittier, Calif./Whittier) was third in the 100 freestyle (53.82) and fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:56.42).
Kelly Loftus was third in the 200 backstroke (2:07.45) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (58.78).
Ember McCoy (So., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) finished fourth in the 1,650 freestyle (17:43.46.) and fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:10.41).
Sarah Wodnik (So., Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) was fourth in the 400 individual medley (4:39.98) and fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:11.59).
Megan Shover finished fourth in the 50 freestyle (24.55), as did
Jensena Paul in the 200 backstroke (2:08.27) and
Susan Peinsipp (So., Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) in the 200 butterfly (2:12.83).
