The Carthage College women's track and field team (35-11-2 indoor record) finished third at the Friday, Feb. 10 Chicagoland Indoor Track and Field Championship at North Central College's Al B. Carious Track in Naperville, Ill.
Lewis University won the 18-team event with 162 points, followed by the host-Cardinals second at 111, Carthage third at 84, the University of Chicago fourth at 74, Wheaton College (Ill.) fifth at 46, Illinois-Chicago sixth at 40, the University of St. Francis (Ill.) seventh at 25, St. Xavier University eighth at 22, Chicago State University ninth at 20, the College of DuPage 10th at 18, Judson University (Ill.) 11th at 15, Robert Morris University (Ill.) 12th at 11, Concordia University (Chicago) 13th at 10, DePaul University 14th with eighth points, the Illinois Institute of Technology 15th with five, Elmhurst College 16th with three, Aurora University 17th with two and North Park University 18th with one point.
Carthage's
Patti Laufenberg (So., Waunakee, Wis.) won the 400-meter dash (58.75). The Lady Reds also picked up a win from their 4x400-meter relay team of
Makenzi Morris (Fr., Crown Point, Ind.),
Marissa Weiler (So., Morton Grove, Ill./Skokie-Niles North),
Molly Chlum (Sr., Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) and Laufenberg.
Katie Kummerer (So., Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale-Central) finished second in the 800-meter run (2:21.21).
Sarah Thompson (Sr., Byron, Ill.), this week's CCIW “Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week,” took third place in the 60-meter hurdles (9.35).
Carthage collected fourth-place finishes from
Kelsey Wilhelm (Fr., Lisle, Ill.) in the 200-meter dash (26.72),
Morgan Wiechmann (Sr., Sleepy Hollow, Ill./Carpentersville—Dundee-Crown) in the 3,000-meter run (10:45.19),
Toni Terwilliger (Fr., Pillager, Minn./Brainerd) in the pole vault (8-4 ¼) and
Cindy Cavanagh (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Aurora-Waubonsie Valley) in the shot put (40-5).
Carthage travels to Chicago on Saturday, Feb. 18 for the University of Chicago “Margaret Bradley Invitational” at the Henry Crown Field House, beginning at 11 a.m.
