The Carthage College women's lacrosse team will be participating in the May-June 2012 "Lacrosse Down Under Cup" in Melbourne, Australia. This tournament has played host to teams from Japan, New Zealand, Australia and the United States. It was originally created by the Lacrosse Victoria Club to give its women's players an opportunity to compete in an international tournament. In 2008, a men's competition was added.
The tournament fosters international goodwill and friendship, as well as promoting the game of lacrosse. This once in a lifetime experience provides an opportunity for the Carthage program to bridge cultural gaps and play lacrosse at a higher level. Prior to partaking in the Down Under Cup, the team will first travel to the city of Gold Coast in South East Queensland for surfing lessons, a sea kayaking trip with dolphins and interaction with kangaroos and koalas.
The Lady Reds have worked extremely hard fund raising for the past three years to fund raise money to pay for approximately 50 percent of this trip. Their hard work will finally pay off in May. Click
