The Carthage College men's golf team (50-1) won the Thursday, Sept. 29 Concordia University (Wis.) “Elite Eight Invitational” at the North Shore Country Club in Mequon, Wis. The Red Men won the eight-team event with a 299 team score, 16 strokes ahead of second-place Wheaton College (Ill.) at 315. The Wheaton (Ill.) “B” team was third at 325, followed by the host-Falcons fourth at 327, the Milwaukee School of Engineering fifth at 332, Marian University sixth at 354, the MSOE “B” team seventh at 356 and the Concordia (Wis.) “B” team eighth with a 375 mark.
The tournament win was the fourth straight for the Red Men. Carthage's
Donnie Langland (Jr., Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) took medalist honors with a with a three-under-par 69, and
Brad Hyland (So., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) was second with a 72.
Riley Bauman (So., Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) tied for sixth with a 78, with both
Anthony Burdi (So., Carol Stream, Ill./Bartlett) and
Josh Kopka (So., Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) tied for 13th place with 80s.
Ben Schroeder (So., Mundelein, Ill.), playing as an individual, tied for third place with a 76, and Dominic Madrigano (Jr., Spring Grove, Ill./Grayslake-Central), also playing as an individual, tied for sixth with a 78. On Sunday-Monday, Oct. 2-3, the Red Men play in the Milwaukee School of Engineering Fall Invitational at the Grand Geneva Golf Course in Lake Geneva, Wis. (1:30 p.m./9 a.m.).
