The Carthage College men's golf team (46-1) won the Sunday-Monday, Sept. 25-26 Wisconsin Lutheran College Fall Invitational at the Washington County Golf Course in Hartford, Wis. The teams managed only nine holes in the rain on Sunday, Sept. 25 but completed 18 holes on Monday, Sept. 26.
Carthage won the 14-team event with a 147-301-448 team score, 28 strokes ahead of second-place Webster University at 162-314-476. Elmhurst College was third at 164-313-477, followed by the Carthage “B” team fourth at 159-323-482, Lakeland College fifth at 161-328-489, Aurora University sixth at 169-329-498, Wisconsin Lutheran seventh at 155-344-499, Marian University eighth at 168-337-505, Concordia University (Wis.) ninth at 173-335-508, the Milwaukee School of Engineering at 170-350-520 and St. Norbert College at 177-343-520 tied for 10th place, Lawrence University 12th at 186-358-544, and Dominican University (Ill.) at 188-365-553 tied for 13th place with the Wisconsin Lutheran “B” team at 190-363-553.
The tournament win for the third straight for the Red Men. Carthage's Donnie Langland (Jr., Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs, team-leading 74.0 season average) took medalist honors with a with one-over-par 109, and Brad Hyland (So., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge, 75.8) was second at 110. Anthony Burdi (So., Carol Stream, Ill./Bartlett, 77.8) was third at 112, Riley Bauman (So., Crystal Lake, Ill./Central, 76.0) tied for 11th at 120, and Tyler Prickette (So., Appleton, Wis./Xavier, 81.1) also tied for 11th place at 120.
For the Red Men's “B” team, Ben Schroeder (So., Mundelein, Ill., 78.2) was eighth with a 116, and Josh Kopka (So., Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs, 79.6) tied for 12th at 120. Dominic Madrigano (Jr., Spring Grove, Ill./Grayslake-Central, 79.8) tied for 17th at 122, Patrick Clavio (Jr., Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg, 81.6) tied for 23rd ar 124, and Brendon Jones (Sr., St. Charles, Ill./West Chicago, 78.2) tied for 32nd place at 122.
Carthage travels to Mequon, Wis., on Thursday, Sept. 29 to play in the Concordia University (Wis.) Fall Invitational at the Mequon Country Club, beginning at 9 a.m.
