Carthage Doubles Team of Hollis McPeek and Kristina Naidicz Falls at ITA Regional Semifinals

The Carthage College women's tennis team (5-3, 3-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) traveled to St. Peter, Minn., for the Friday-Sunday, Sept. 23-25 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Midwest Regional Championship at Gustavus Adolphus College.

In first-round singles action on Friday, Sept. 23, Carthage's Hollis McPeek (Sr., Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest, 4-6) won her first-round match over St. Mary University's Bailey Edwards, 6-4, 7-5, before losing to Grinnell College's Sadhana Athreya in the second round, Athreya winning, 7-5, 6-4. The Lady Reds' three other singles participants all lost in first-round play. Luther College's Elise Allen defeated Kristina Naidicz (Sr., Kenosha, Wis./Tremper, 5-4), 6-4, 7-6(5). Lawrence University's Jennifer Roesch won over Erin Henrickson (Fr., Darien, Ill./Hinsdale-South, 3-6), 6-0, 6-3, and Wisconsin-Whitewater's Alexandra Bayliss defeated Bari Reynolds (So., Sterling, Ill., 6-3), 7-5, 6-3.

In doubles play, McPeek and Naidicz (10-1) reached the semifinals before suffering their first loss of the season, falling to Megan Gaard/Alex Erickson from Gustavus Adolphus, 8-6. The Carthage duo defeated Wisconsin-Whitewater's Megan Kasten/Abby Day, 8-1, in the first round; won over Gustavus Adolphus' Mallory Shellum/Heather Annis, 8-0, in second-round play; and won a quarterfinal contest against Coe College's Jackie Pedersen/Sara Ohlman by an 8-4 margin.
