The Carthage College men's cross country team (22-15) tied for 16th place at the NCAA Division III portion of the Saturday, Sept. 24 University of Minnesota “Roy Griak Invitational” at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn. 

Wisconsin-Oshkosh won the 32-team event with 69 points, followed by Wisconsin-La Crosse second ar 85, Wisconsin-Platteville third at 104, Hamline University fourth at 138, Wisconsin-Eau Claire fifth at 162, Loras College sixth at 164, Wartburg College seventh at 273, Emory University eighth at 274, Wisconsin-River Falls ninth at 279, Lakeland College 10th at 284, Wisconsin-Whitewater 11th at 294, Lawrence University 12th at 311, Carleton College 13th at 343, Bethel University 14th at 360, Grinnell College 15th at 372 and Carthage tied with Harper College for 16th place at 424 each.
 
Hamline's Devin Monson won the 8K race with a time of 25:33.90.  Carthage's Jake Mahaffey (Jr., Mahomet, Ill. /Mahomet-Seymour) was 28th at 26:32.80, with Grant Seiler (Jr., Greenfield, Wis./Whitnall) 75th at 27:19.00. Alex Nelson (Jr., Red Wing, Minn.) ran a 27:33.10, Russell Wetzel (Sr., Champaign, Ill./Central) a 28:06.90, and J.D. Fuller (Fr., Woodstock, Ill.) finished with a 28:26.20. 

Also running for the Red Men were Will Novorolsky (So., Elburn, Ill./St. Charles-North) at 28:31.40, Dan August (So., Mokena, Ill./Frankfort—Lincoln-Way East) at 28:48.70 and Eric Bernard (So., Darien, Ill./Downers Grove-South) at 28:49.00. 

Carthage split squads on Saturday, Sept. 24, with the rest of the team traveling to Warrenville, Ill., to run in the Wheaton College (Ill.) "Gil Dodds Invitational" at the St. James Farm Forest Preserve. The Red Men finished eighth at the Wheaton event. Washington University (Mo.) won that eight-team race with 24 points, followed by the host-Thunder second at 38, the North Central College freshmen third at 106, North Central (Ill.) fourth at 107, Elmhurst College fifth at 125, the College of DuPage sixth at 183, Benedictine University (Ill.) seventh at 197 and Carthage eighth with 227 points.
 
Michael Burnstein from Washington (Mo.) won the Wheaton (Ill.) race with a time of 25:23.30. Josh Keck (Jr., Minooka, Ill.) topped the Red Men in 71st place with a time of 27:56.87. Jose Flores (Sr., Round Lake, Ill./Fox Lake-Grant Community) ran a 28:09.87, Matt Krause (So., Northfield, Ill./Winnetka-New Trier) a 29:47.74, Dustin Parker (Jr., Waterford, Wis./Union) a 30:31.18, Paul Smith (Jr., Algonquin, Ill./Carpentersville—Dundee-Crown) a 31:37.05, Dillon Emerson (Fr., Kenosha, Wis./Bradford) a 32:20.81 and Zachary Feldker (Fr., Bloomington, Ill./Downs-Tri Valley) a 35:19.02. 

Carthage is idle on Saturday, Oct. 1 and returns to action at the Saturday, Oct. 8 Lawrence University “Gene Davis Invitational” at the Reid Municipal Golf Course in Appleton, Wis., beginning at 11 a.m.
