The Carthage College women's soccer team (4-3-1, 0-0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) opened play at the fifth-annual Carthage “Battle on the Border” on Friday night with a 5-0 win over Spalding University (0-6-0) at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis. The win was the second in a row for Carthage. 

The Lady Reds took a 3-0 lead in the first period. Rachel Jason (Jr., Deerfield, Ill.) scored twice in the period, her sixth and seventh goals of the year, the first one at 7:00 and the other one at 29:00, with Taylor Capek assisting on both. Sandwiched around Jason's two goals was a goal by Capek, her fourth of the year, at 13:20. Carthage's Alyssa Baker (So., Lake Villa, Ill./Lakes Community) scored twice in the second period, both unassisted. Baker's first goal came at 72:30 and the second at 88:34. Carthage out-shot the Golden Eagles, 34-0. 

The Lady Reds conclude tournament play on Sunday, Sept. 25 with a 2 p.m. game versus Clarke University (2-6-0).
