Red Men Travel to the St. Francis (Ill.) Fall Invitational on Tuesday

The Carthage College men's golf team (7-1) opened the fall portion of its 2011-12 season by finishing second at the Monday, Sept. 12 Carthage Fall Invitational at The Club at Strawberry Creek in Kenosha, Wis.

Illinois Wesleyan University won the 14-team event with a 290-289-579 team score, 41 strokes ahead of second-place Carthage at 302-318-620. Ashford University was third at 310-311-621, followed by Wheaton College (Ill.) fourth at 311-316-627, Elmhurst College fifth at 308-320-628, Benedictine University (Ill.) at 319-320-639 and the Carthage “C” team at 314-325-639 tied for sixth place, the Milwaukee School of Engineering eighth at 313-328-641, Aurora University ninth at 325-318-643, the Carthage “B” team 10th at 327-324-651, Wisconsin Lutheran College 11th at 330-333-663, the MSOE “B” team 12th at 338-340-678, the Elmhurst “B” team 13th at 345-354-699 and the Benedictine (Ill.) “B” team 14th with a 351-374-725 mark.

Illinois Wesleyan's Teddy Kon took medalist honors with a one-under-par 72-71-143. Teammate Shane Smith was second at even-par 71-73-144. Carthage's Donnie Langland (Jr., Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) was seventh with a 73-78-151. Riley Bauman (So., Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) was eighth at 73-79-152, Josh Kopka (So., Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) 33rd at 82-78-160, Brad Hyland (So., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) tied for 34th at 77-84-161, and Dominic Madrigano (Fr., Boucherville, Quebec) tied for 36th at 79-83-162.

For the sixth-place Carthage “C” team, Brendon Jones (Sr., St. Charles, Ill./West Chicago) tied for 11th place at 77-77-154. Anthony Burdi (So., Carol Stream, Ill./Bartlett) tied for 15th at 77-79-156. Patrick Clavio (Jr., Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) finished 41st at 80-83-163, Scott Shiple (Sr., Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) tied for 44th at 80-86-166, and Casey Schneider (So., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) finished 62nd with an 87-86-173.

For the Carthage “B” team, Nate Moore (Jr., Moline, Ill.) tied for 34th at 81-80-161, Matt Gates (Fr., Fort Atkinson, Wis.) tied for 36th at 85-77-162, Ben Schroeder (So., Mundelein, Ill.) tied for 36th at 79-83-162, Tyler Prickette (So., Appleton, Wis./Xavier) tied for 44th at 82-84-166, and Dan Parks (Sr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) 56th with an 85-86-170. Kenny Rudy (Sr., Rockton, Ill./Hononegah), playing as an individual, shot a 78-80-158, and Tyler Glass (Fr., Fort Atkinson, Wis.), also playing as an individual, finished with an 83-84-167.

The Red Men travel to Joliet, Ill., on Tuesday, Sept. 13 to play in the University of St. Francis (Ill.) Fall Invitational at the Wedgewood Golf Course, beginning at 10 a.m.
