The Carthage College women's golf team opens its 2011-12 season at the Friday, Sept. 2 Robert Morris University-Lake County “Fall Classic” at the Bonnie Brook Golf Course in Waukegan, Ill., beginning at 9 a.m. Rick Leslie (0-13, 1 year thru spring 2011), who was hired on Nov. 18, 2010 and guided the team thru its spring 2011 schedule, begins his first full season as head coach.
Leslie returns just two of his top-six players but 17-of-22 letterwinners from last year's fifth-place CCIW squad. Amy Binstein (tied for 26th at the CCIW championship, 89.9), Katie Ramirez (20th at the CCIW championship, team-leading 86.7) and Heidi Hoffman (31st at the CCIW championship, 91.4) all graduated. Tabby Bell (19th at the CCIW championship, 90.9) and Aubrie Morano (tied for 33rd place at the CCIW championship, 90.9) are the two leading returnees.
Also returning are Jenna Apple (Jr., Bloomington, Ill., 97.7), Nicole Barrington (Sr., Janesville, Wis., Craig), Michelle Braun (Sr., Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West, 93.5), Kiki Buege (Jr., Hudson, Wis., 104.2), Heidi Chronowski (Jr., Monticello, Iowa, 101.6), Taylor Dory (So., Menomonee Falls, Wis., 95.0), Haylee Eckert (Sr., Roanoke, Ind./Fort Wayne-Bishop Luers, last played for the 2008-09 Lady Reds team), Natalie Haines (So., Geneva, Ill./Aurora-Rosary, 98.0), Julie Klawitter (Jr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey, 98.4), Taylor McAdams (Jr., Sycamore, Ill., 92.5), Brooke Mix (Sr., Westfield, Ind., 100.5), Cristal Tucker (Sr., Oak Forest, Ill., 118.5), Marissa Wilson (Fr., Loda, Ill./Paxton-Buckley-Loda, 116.5), Carlie Wysocke (So., Hoffman Estates, Ill./Elgin-St. Edward Central Catholic, 106.0) and Joanna Young (Jr., Kenosha, Wis./Tremper, 99.5).
Leading newcomers include Erin Holst (Fr., Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley, second-team all-state and first-team All-Mississippi Athletic Conference and won individual honors at the regional championship), Isabel Hotelling (Fr., Arcadia, Wis., All-Coulee Conference) and Shannon Keating (Fr., Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg).
