Carthage College's
Steve Djurickovic (Sr., Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Kenosha-Bradford) was named the 2010-11 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's 2011 "Man of the Year" on June 28.
Djurickovic, a member of the Red Men's basketball team, was chosen through a voting process conducted by the CCIW senior woman administrators and faculty athletics representatives. He was part of a group of four other nominees that included Elmhurst College's Mark Corsello (wrestling), Augustana College's Johnny Mago (football), North Central College's Michael Spain (cross country/track and field) and North Park University's Lars Tenglin (track & field).
Djurickovic, an exercise and sport science major with a 3.51 grade-point average, was a two-time winner of the CCIW's "Fred Young Most Outstanding Player" award, a 2011 "D3hoops.com" first-team All-American and 2010 the "D3hoops.com" "Player of the Year."
Additionally, Djurickovic was the 2011 recipient of the prestigious Josten's Trophy, an annual award which recognizes outstanding student-athletes in NCAA Division III basketball for excellence in the classroom, on the playing court and in the community.
Also in 2011, he was named to the Capital One Academic All-America First Team for the second-straight season. The Academic All-America program is coordinated by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and recognizes student-athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom and on the field of competition.
The CCIW Man of the Year award was established in 2008 to recognize the conference's top male student-athlete, similar to the NCAA's recognition of its top female student-athlete, which the CCIW participates in by submitting one female nominee at the end of each academic year. Both the man of the year and woman of the year award-winners are honored with plaques by the CCIW.
