The Carthage College women's track and field team (44-6-1 outdoor record) finished second at the Friday-Saturday, May 6-7 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Ericson Stadium in Rock Island, Ill. 

North Central College won its seventh CCIW title with 236 points, followed by Carthage second at 144.50, Illinois Wesleyan University third at 124, Wheaton College (Ill.) fourth at 110, Augustana College (Ill.) fifth at 108.50, Millikin University sixth at 83, Elmhurst seventh with nine points and North Park University eighth with four points.

Carthage's Mindy Harrington (Sr., Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton) won three events and was named the meet's “most outstanding field athlete.” Harrington took first place in the hammer throw (172-7), the shot put (46-2 ¾) and the discus (153-6). Ashura Jenkins (Sr., Aurora, Ill./Christian) won the 100-meter dash (12.20) and finished second in the 200-meter dash (25.23). Sarah Thompson (Jr., Byron, Ill.) won the heptathlon (4,397 points), while taking second place in the 100-meter high hurdles (15.58).

Christine Nelson (Jr., Rock City, Ill./Dakota) took second place in the heptathlon (4,291 points), and Joslyn Drew (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) was third in the triple jump (35-4). The Lady Reds also picked up a win from their 400-meter relay team of Jenkins, Molly Chlum (Jr., Tinley Park, Ill./Orland Hills-Andrew), Kelly McHale (Sr., Naperville, Ill./North) and Carnesha Johnson (Fr., Beach Park, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) with a time of 47.43.
