The Carthage College men's golf team (104-14) won the Saturday-Sunday, April 9-10 Ripon College Spring Invitational at the Lawsonia Golf Links Course in Green Lake, Wis.

Carthage won the 16-team event with a school-record 282-276-558 team score, 33 strokes ahead of the Red Men's “B” team at 289-302-591. The Milwaukee School of Engineering was third at 306-291-597, followed by Carroll University (Wis.) fourth at 312-293-605, Edgewood College fifth at 302-306-608, St. Norbert College sixth at 306-305-611, Lakeland College seventh at 315-316-631, Madison College eighth at 318-329-647, the St. Norbert “B” tam ninth at 332-318-650, Lawrence University 10th at 334-328-662, Ripon College 11th at 341-325-666, the Carroll (Wis.) “B” team 12th at 339-343-682, Beloit College 13th at 340-344-684, Wisconsin Lutheran College 14th at 340-353-693, Finlandia University 15th at 378-361-739 and Lake Forest College 16th with a 360-380-740 mark.

Carthage set a school record with its 558 team score, shattering a mark of 576 set in the Millikin “Big Blue” Invitational on April 22-23, 1994. The Red Men's second-day team score of 276 broke a one-day record of 282 set on Saturday.

Donnie Langland (So., Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs, team-leading 73.3 season average) took medalist honors with a 71-65-136. Langland's second-day round of 65 tied a school record set by Tyler Wollberg at the Sept. 30, 2007 Wisconsin Lutheran Fall Invitational, and Langland's two-day mark of 136 is second only to Wollberg's 135 in that 2007 event. Anthony Burdi (Fr., Carol Stream, Ill./Bartlett, 75.5) was second at 70-68-138. Riley Bauman (Fr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Central, 77.6) tied for fourth place at 72-70-142. Tyler Prickette (Fr., Appleton, Wis./Xavier, 76.5) was seventh at 70-73-143, and Brad Hyland (Fr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge, 76.8) tied for 14th place at 71-77-148.

For the Carthage “B” team, Bobby O'Neill (Sr., Mokena, Ill./Frankfort—Lincoln-Way East, 78.7) was eighth at 69-75-144, and Brendon Jones (Jr., St. Charles, Ill./West Chicago, 75.8) tied for ninth place at 70-75-145. Andy Wojciechowicz (Sr., Racine, Wis./Kenosha-Bradford, 78.3) shot a 73-76-149, Casey Schneider (Fr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge, 80.6) a 78-76-154, and Scott Shiple (Jr., Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East, 77.9) finished with a 77-77-154. Carthage travels to Naperville, Ill., on Friday-Saturday, April 15-16 for the first two rounds of the CCIW Men's Golf Championship at the Cress Creek Country Club (8:30/10 a.m.).
