Red Men Play Host to Olivet Nazarene on Wednesday

The Carthage College men's tennis team (16-6, 3-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) shut out Principia College (2-10), 9-0, on Saturday, April 23 at Principia's Hexberg Tennis Center in Elsah, Ill. Saturday's contest wrapped up a two-match trip to Principia, with Carthage defeating Westminster College (Mo., 9-8), 7-2, on Friday, April 22. A second match versus Webster on Friday was rained out.

Carthage's Jeff Lotz Jr. (So., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 22-4), ranked 16th in the April 14 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Region rankings, defeated the Panthers' Weston Kalogeridis at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Daneric Hazelman (Jr., Lautoka, Fiji Islands/Natabua, 22-5) won over Todd Zimmerman at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-2. Matt Whiteside (Jr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 21-3) was a winner No. 3 singles, as was Alex McLean (Jr., Belleville, Ill./West, 5-9) at No. 4 singles, Russell Mull (Jr., Lake Forest, Ill., 4-11) at No. 5 singles and Brian Howes (So., Bartlett, Ill., 7-9) at No. 6 singles.

Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Hazelman (22-4), ranked 12th in the region, was winner over Principia, as was the No. 2 team of Whiteside and Nick Boomgarden (Jr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 19-6) and the number-three tandem of McLean and Mull (1-1). 

Carthage's scheduled make-up match against Olivet Nazarene University on Wednesday, April 27 was canceled. On Saturday, April 30, the Red Men travel to Bloomington, Ill., for a double-dual match at Illinois Wesleyan University. Carthage takes on the host-Titans at 9 a.m. and Illinois-Springfield at Noon. The Illinois Wesleyan double-dual match ends the Red Men's regular-season schedule.
