Carthage College sprinter Ashura Jenkins (Sr., Aurora, Ill./Christian) and teammate/thrower Mindy Harrington (Sr., Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton) were named CCIW “Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week” on April 19, while Red Men thrower Greg Raimondi (Jr., Harwood Heights, Ill./Norridge-Ridgewood) earned men's “field athlete of the week” honors.
Jenkins ran an NCAA-provisional 12.18 to win the 100-meter dash at the April 13 Wheaton College (Ill.) “Twilight Invitational.” She is currently eighth on the national list. Jenkins was also a member of the winning 400-meter relay team that also ran an NCAA-provisional time of 48.35 that is currently 13th on the national list. She was second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.34. Harrington won three events at the same meet. She hit an NCAA-automatic mark of 45-10 3/4 in winning the shot put, an NCAA-provisional mark of 170-0 in the hammer and won the discus with a throw of 135-10.
Raimondi had three top-four finishes at the April 16 Augustana College (Ill.) “Meet of Champions” and just missing national-qualifying marks in all three. He won the hammer throw with a toss of 173-1, was second in the discus with a throw of 154-6 and was fourth in the shot at 50-7.
