Carthage was in second place after day two of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men's Golf Championship. The first two rounds of the four-round event were played on Friday-Saturday, April 15-16 at the Cress Creek Country Club in Naperville, Ill., with the final two rounds to be played on Friday-Saturday, April 29-30 at Harborside International Golf in Chicago.
Millikin University led the eight-team championship with a 324-314-642, four strokes ahead of second-place Carthage at 327-319-646. Wheaton College (Ill.) was third at 324-324-648, followed by Illinois Wesleyan University fourth at 338-322-660, North Park University fifth at 338-333-671, North Central College sixth at 335-339-674, Elmhurst College seventh at 353-324-677 and Augustana College (Ill.) eighth at 349-347-696.
Carthage's Donnie Langland (So., Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) led the field with a 77-78-155. Millikin's Michael Markiewicz and Wheaton's Steven Moore were tied for second place at 158 each. The Red Men's Anthony Burdi (Fr., Carol Stream, Ill./Bartlett) was tied for fifth at 77-83-160. Tyler Prickette (Fr., Appleton, Wis./Xavier) was 12th with an 86-77-163, Riley Bauman (Fr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) tied for 25th at 87-83-170, and Brad Hyland (Fr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) was tied for 32nd place with a 93-81-174.
However, the CCIW office ruled on April 25 that Carthage's Donnie Langland should have been disqualified from the second round due to a scorecard discrepancy. As a result, Langland's second-day round of 78 was erased, and Riley Bauman's round of 83 was substituted for Langland's. Bauman was the Red Men's fifth player.
With the corrected team scores, Millikin still leads the eight-team championship with a 324-314-642, six strokes ahead of second-place Wheaton (Ill.) at 324-324-648. Carthage slips to third at 327-324-651, followed by followed by Illinois Wesleyan University fourth at 338-322-660, North Park University fifth at 338-333-671, North Central College sixth at 335-339-674, Elmhurst College seventh at 353-324-677 and Augustana College (Ill.) eighth at 349-347-696. Millikin's Michael Markiewicz and Wheaton's Steven Moore now lead the field at 158 each.
