The Carthage College women's track and field team (26-3-1 outdoor record) finished third at the Wednesday, April 13 Wheaton College (Ill.) “Twilight Invitational” at McCully Field in Wheaton, Ill.
North Central College won the six-team event with 173.50 points, followed by the University of Chicago second at 135, Carthage third at 122.50, Wheaton College (Ill.) fourth at 114, Illinois Wesleyan University fifth at 71 and Wisconsin-Parkside sixth with 16 points.
Carthage's Mindy Harrington (Sr., Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton) won three events, taking first place in the shot put (45-10 3/4), the discus (135-10) and the hammer throw (169-11 ¾). Ashura Jenkins (Sr., Aurora, Ill./Christian) won the 100-meter dash (12.18) and finished second in the 200-meter dash (25.34). Cindy Cavanagh (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Aurora-Waubonsie Valley) finished first in the javelin (106-10). Joslyn Drew (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) was second in the triple jump (34-8 1.2), and Katie Gordon (Jr., Ingleside, Ill./Fox Lake-Grant Community) was third in both the shot put (37-5 ¼) and the discus (131-2). The Lady Reds also picked up a win from their 400-meter relay team of Ashura Jenkins (Sr., Aurora, Ill./Christian), Molly Chlum (Jr., Tinley Park, Ill./Orland Hills-Andrew), Kelly McHale (Sr., Naperville, Ill./North) and Carnesha Johnson (Fr., Beach Park, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) with a time of 48.35.
Carthage travels to Oshkosh, Wis., on Friday, April 22 for the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational at the UW-Oshkosh Sports Complex, beginning at 2 p.m.
